A private classic car garage in Mellau, Vorarlberg, Austria, demonstrates how functional architecture, precise lighting design, and a distinct passion for automobiles can be combined to create an extraordinary overall concept.
Designed by ARSP Architekten, the extension to a residential building serves not only as a lounge with picturesque views, but also as a private showroom for high-quality vehicles — a dream come true, and not only for automotive enthusiasts.

The building volume is largely integrated into the hillside and opens out towards the landscape of the Bregenzerwald. Exposed concrete, glass, terrazzo and linearly integrated luminaires define the consistently reduced design.
Vehicles can be lifted into the lounge via a lifting platform and deliberately staged there. In this way, they become an experiential part of the overall spatial experience.

LUMINAIRES IN COLLABORATION
Our partner M-Quadrat Möbel und Mehr from Dornbirn supplied the LED linear luminaires from their own LED-CONCRETE series, which are integrated into the exposed concrete. In Germany, the product is available from Barthelme under the name PALERMO. To enable the integration of the luminaires, recessed mounting profiles are planned and cast into the concrete ceiling during the production process of the building.
The CATANIA 3030 linear luminaire inserts of the LED-CONCRETE system are manufactured by Barthelme, custom-made to the required dimensions and fitted with LEDlight flex HIGH EFFICIENCY LED strips. These lightsources combine low power consumption with excellent light quality and durability — in keeping with the longevity of the surrounding materials and products.

The LED-CONCRETE / PALERMO linear luminaires emphasise the clear linear design and blend discreetly into the architecture. Their slim, room-spanning placement highlights the materiality of the space and precisely stages the vehicles without drawing attention to themselves.

The result is a spatial design that impressively combines architecture, landscape and automotive passion.
