On a rocky coastal promontory in Kruunuvuorenranta, Helsinki, an installation by artist Olafur Eliasson traces the path of the sun along the horizon and marks the summer solstice.
The Long Daylight Pavilion is part of the City of Helsinki’s art collection, which is managed and curated by the Helsinki Art Museum (HAM).

At dusk, the ring of 24 stainless steel steles becomes a landmark visible from afar. Each stele features an integrated acrylic-glass luminaire body at its upper end. Light emerges through diamond-shaped openings and intensifies towards the top, forming a clear point of light.

Berlin-based Studio Barthelmess was responsible for the lighting design and luminaire production. As the supplier of the light sources, Barthelme LED Solutions was able to support the project with their IP68-rated AQUALUC S:OLIDs: three customised AQUALUC S:OLID MONOCHROME units were used in each stele, offset by 120°.

The decisive factors in the use of our AQUALUC S:OLID light lines were their compact and robust IP68 polyurethane construction. The material system used is suitable for applications in combination with acrylic glass and has very low VOC emissions.
This minimises deposits inside the luminaire body and supports both the long-term optical quality and the durability of the installation.
