When extreme disasters like floods or forest fires strike, standard communication infrastructures often collapse. During these critical times, the state of Brandenburg deploys its specialized information and communication vehicle. This highly mobile, indestructible command center relies on satellite internet, digital radio networks, and secure servers to take over operations in worst-case scenarios. It features five workstations and a rear tactical briefing room.
High-end technology is only as effective as the people operating it. Inside the cabin, emergency crews work demanding 12-hour shifts under immense pressure. In such a confined, high-stress environment, ergonomic, human-centric design is absolutely necessary.

The Challenge of Tactical Night Operations
One of the most significant operational challenges is adapting to the dark during night missions. Standard white cabin lighting causes pupils to contract. When a crew member looks away from a bright monitor into a dark disaster zone, their vision is temporarily impaired until their eyes slowly readjust.
To solve this problem, the vehicle required an incredibly specific, adaptable, and robust lighting system that could protect the crew’s night vision, enhance focus during long shifts, and withstand the rigorous demands of an industrial emergency vehicle.

Our Solution: Precision Lighting for Extreme Environments
For this demanding project, Barthelme provided a fully customized, intelligent LED lighting system. Our solution seamlessly integrates into the vehicle’s structure, giving each operator complete control over their surroundings.
To achieve this level of precision and durability, the project utilized a specific combination of our premium products:
- CATania 3030 Profiles: We utilized our robust CATania 3030 aluminum profiles to house the system. These profiles offer exceptional thermal management and a sleek, industrial-grade finish that blends seamlessly into the vehicle.
- Dynamic TBW and RGB LEDs: Inside the profiles, we combined our precise Tunable White (TBW) LEDs with full spectrum RGB LEDs. This allows operators to easily switch between cold white and warm white.
- Tactical Color Control: Thanks to the RGB integration, crews can instantly switch their individual workstation to specific tactical colors. Red light preserves natural night vision, allowing operators to look out into the pitch black night without their eyes needing time to adapt. Green light provides maximum visual contrast, making it the perfect choice for reading highly detailed maps in the dark.
- Casambi Smart Control and Remotes: The entire lighting network is driven by Casambi Bluetooth technology. Each workstation and the briefing room can be individually configured using a central tablet application or dedicated physical remote controls. This gives the crew instant, localized control over the RGB spectrum and brightness, without requiring complex or expensive centralized rewiring.

This specialized vehicle is a perfect example of our expertise in providing custom, reliable lighting solutions for complex engineering projects. If you need to outfit a disaster response vehicle, design a modern control room, or integrate premium LED technology into your commercial products, we offer the technology and engineering support to make it happen.
